Lack of Focus

I can't seem to just focus on any one thing. I'm not convinced that it matters. In reflecting back on my week it seems that the only thing that I'm actually able to sustain a commitment to and focus on is drinking margaritas at Pasquals. I would consider myself at the elite level when it comes to margarita drinking. That has to count for something!

However, even without a dedicated focus on skiing I seem to be improving. Monday and Thursday I rollerskied. I hadn't been on my rollerskis in at least two weeks and we moved our practices from Badger Prairie park to a new location just off the Capitol City bike trail. The new location provides many new challenges to the novice rollerskier but I'm adapting.

Anyway, back to my skiing improvement. Last night we were doing intervals and on the last one I skied by Yuriy (the leader of our merry band) and he asked me if I was doing an interval or just skiing. I yelled out that I was doing an interval for god sakes. Afterwards he said that he didn't mean that I looked like a slacker but that my ski technique just looked so much better than it used to even when I was just skiing easy. Of course, 30 seconds later he told me that the way I bring my hands back when I'm poling is like "chicken wings" and went over with me for the millionth time how to do it correctly. I am getting better though and on Monday one of the other skiers in our group was told to follow me during one of our technique drills. That was a first for me.

This week I also went running twice as I just felt like running and running worked into the schedule better. On Wednesday I chose running over cross practice as I had a neighborhood meeting I wanted to attend. They had organized a special meeting to discuss the recent up tick in violent crime in our neighborhood. There's been a rash of armed robberies on streets in my general area where the robbers like to rough up the victim. One guy wouldn't give up his money (all of $3) and was shot (not fatally though). We've also had a number of home robberies, car break ins, etc. Don't be frightened to visit me though . . . just be aware of your surroundings and don't argue with someone with a gun. In reality my neighborhood is super cool and the people who live here are nice people . . . let's face it, grim economic times lead many people to more desperate crimes.

In cyclocross news JPE and I met with Bob from Planet Bike this week as well to discuss next year's Jonathan Page's Planet Bike Cup. Our forms are due to the UCI in December and we're all excited to keep improving the event. Save September 26 and 27, 2009 for lots of fun!
