Doctor says "go crazy"
My doctor told me that I could start doing "crazy" stuff again. . . then he told me the worst that could happen is that I re-tear my ACL. Nice sense of humor! He did amend that to say that statistically that I would be more likely to tear my other ACL.
I did a few very, very low speed dismounts last week and it didn't hurt so that is a good sign. Now I just need to up my speed beyond a crawl and maybe there will be hope for me. I get my Alan X33 cross bike next week so hopefully that will be the motivation to move forward and stop worrying about my knee.
My doctor said no racing until I "graduate" from my Physical Therapy class but I think that will be happening the end of August so looks like I'll be out getting my butt kicked all fall at cross. My physical therapists are supposed to graduate you from the class when they have helped you get back to the sport that you were doing when the injury occurred. That should be interesting given that they are still somewhat confused by the whole sport of cyclocross. I'm not sure they really understand but the doctor told me to make them work with me on it. Should be interesting.
Cross practices should be starting here in Madison after Labor Day. As soon as I get the details I will get them online. Don't forget to register for the Cross Clinic. It will be a cool opportunity for even experienced racers to refine their technique and get up to speed for the season. Also, Adam Hodges Myerson and Ben Turner are flying all the way here to do the instruction so it will be a day of cross, cross, cross and what could be more fun. And a mere $40 which gets you snacks and lunch too.
