Am I out of shape already?

It seems impossible that only one week of rest after the cross racing season could cause me to lose all my fitness but it certainly felt that way when I went out skiing today. I realize that it is a lack of good ski technique that causes me to feel that way but boy did I feel rough today. And I was only skiing Odana (a golf course). I think I'm going to be in trouble come the 24 Hours of Telemark!

I did enjoy waxing my skis though. I hate working on my bike but I actually like ski waxing. Go figure. Jamming the tunes and brushing until your arms fall off. I think I need to get my roto brush set up again.

I actually skied for 20 minutes today before I remembered that you are supposed to release your poles at the end of each pole plant. Then I remembered to ski from my heels and not my toes after like 30 minutes. I still couldn't seem to get my butt tucked under me even after my whole 40 minute ski. Yeah I only lasted 40 minutes before I had to call it a day. I was exhausted from that much skiing.

Then I came home and stretched like crazy and iced my knee for 30 minutes. My knee was not happy with the experience. I think it will be really good for it in the long run though and should help build up strength in the muscles that don't see a lot of use in biking. It's going to be a rough few weeks though until it gets accustomed to the sport.

I think I better stick with the flat golf course sking for a bit before I venture out to the hills of Elver.

Don't worry. I only skied for 45 minutes my first time out last weekend. Skiing is really hard!
