Mad Snow Betty

I figured I hadn't started anything new lately (new club, new website, new event, etc) so I decided to form a women's ski training group. I was taken by suprise how many women were interested and last night about 10 of us showed up for our first night of training. Of course, there is no snow in Madison (well, except the big pile of snow waiting for this weekend's races). Given the lack of snow we had a night of dryland training.

Now I've always mocked Dave and his ski school pals for their funny dryland training but now I'm going to have to shut up. Last night Chris L. came out to show us some exercises we can do when there is no snow including some fun plyometrics, some core stuff, and the always fabulous ski bounding. For those not a part of the ski world, ski bounding is basically bounding up a hill with poles simulating classic skiing - land on a bent knee, land on a flat foot, take off from a flat foot, and pole appropriately. I'm just going to admit now that I enjoyed it. Dorky, sure, but still fun. Any serious skiers would have started dryland training at least by late summer so it may not make me a better skier this season but it won't make me a worse skier.

This weekend . . . bike swap, capitol square sprints, annual A Stone's Throw sale (gotta support the sponsor after all). Finish season compilation video so can ship 06 CX dvds. Good thing it's a holiday weekend!
