Things are happening . . .

There seems to be a lot going on these days . . . .

I've got a meeting Monday with the Dane County Parks planner to discuss cyclocross and hopefully the development of a cross specific trail as a part of Badger Prairie County Park's redevelopment. How cool would that be if as a part of all the changes at the park we got a trail that was designed specifically for cyclocross? I have a lot of hope for this as they have agreed to build a dirt jump park for mountain bikers. Cyclocross is pretty tame liability wise compared to that. Plus at a park with dirt jumping, rollerskiing, aeromodeling and a guy who practices parasail take offs suddenly cyclocross seems pretty mainstream.

I'm also in the midst of finalizing all the details for the annual Women's Dirt Retreat that the Mad FORCs hold. It's such a cool event and it's fun seeing the participants get so excited about mountain biking and improving their skills. We also have awesome instructors and this year since Saris is one of the club sponsors we're going to have the Saris power trainer/blender for pedaling up some pre-dinner margaritas. Only downside is that people might enjoy that too much and then our night ride might not happen.

I'm also trying to find time to finish the proposal to the Madison City Park Commission to try and get approval to hold a cyclocross race in a city park. I need to finish that very, very soon! I also need to find time to do something (not sure what my next step is exactly) regarding a request that the Mad FORCs made for consideration of mountain biking in Madison city parks. So many issues, so little time!

I also have some ideas for increasing juniors participation in cyclocross but I haven't found time to do more than come up with ideas so I need to carve out a little time to follow through on that. I also have started working on a women's cyclocross evening . . . tentatively planed for Mon, Sept 10 and to include mini-clinics and demo bikes and such. I'm very excited about that as I hope to get even more women indoctrinated to the cult of cross! More details to come soon on that one.

Oh yeah, and I'm trying to find time to actually follow the training plan that Ben designed for me. I've done my best this month and although I've cut a lot of corners I think I did okay. I'm picking up my PowerTap wheel at lunch today so I'm excited about that. Be prepared to read about watts in all future blog posts as I think there is a requirement to blog about such things.
