Too hot for me!

What's up with this crazy weather here???? It seems like it has been hot for ever although technically it's only since maybe last Tuesday or Wednesday. It seems like an eternity to me since I really don't like hot weather and usually it doesn't last this long. If it's over 80 then I'm a big cry baby so you can imagine what I was like this weekend when it was almost 90 every day.

Saturday Dave and I hit up the mountain bike trails at the Kettles. Before we left to go Dave asked me a couple of times if I was sure I didn't just want to go for a road ride. The reality is that I wanted to go mountain biking but both he and I knew that it would be hard for me in the woods with the heat. However, we went anyway and I really, really, really tried to not be whiny about my imminent death from the heat.

I did pretty well except for after the one long climb on the Emma Carlin trails that goes on forever. Not long after that Dave asked me how I was doing and I told him the honest truth - I was nauseous and light headed. However, I assured him that was normal given the heat so I would be fine. The little road section actually felt good as it helped me cool down for the final sections. Anyway, Saturday was 3 hours of suffering in the heat but trying to be upbeat about it.

It's bad for me to ride my bike when it is hot because I have stupid accidents because my thinking isn't very sharp when I'm hot. At one point I flew around a corner, saw 2 trees, realized I should steer around them or brake or something. No, instead I just plowed into one of them even though I knew I should stop or turn but I just couldn't seem to do it. Luckily I didn't break my finger (something I have done in the past) but it's still a little swelled up today. It's pretty fun in retrospect since I was just in such a fog from the heat that I had trouble reacting quickly. Anyway, I survived a little over 25 miles of riding in the heat and the smoothies at the store in LaGrange were fabulous afterwards.

Sunday was once again hot but I lasted for 3 hours of moderately hilly road riding. The weird part was at the beginning of my ride I saw a bunch of people who had on jackets or long sleeves. That was freaking me out as I was already uncomfortably hot and there they were in jackets. Anyway, not much to report from the road ride besides being too hot and wishing my saddle would get broke in soon.

Basically it was an uneventful weekend of training. However, I have to say that I actually did exactly as my training plan stated. That's a rare thing for me and is pretty amazing on a weekend when I didn't want to ride my bike at all.

Tonight I'm skipping the CVC ride to attack my yard. I realize that I'm not noted for my well maintained yard (well, actually I'm noted for my poorly maintained yard) but I am going to start taking charge of all the things that are out of control. I actually don't mind cutting things down but I never know what to do after that. However, I'm going to just risk it and start working on removing our hedges. I don't like them and I haven't liked them for the last 10 years we've owned our house. And because I don't like them they have started looking worse and worse every year from lack of good maintenance. It should be interesting to see what happens. I really want to take down the one shrub that has grown completely out of control but that might be too much for one evening. At least the neighbors will have to give me credit for effort even if the final results are far from stunning.

After I exhaust myself cutting down out of control shrubbery it's off to Pasquals for margaritas . . . it won't be the same without Jerry and Jess!
