Passport woes!
So last week I thought my passport worries were a thing of the past. The British embassy said that there was no problem with my passport expiring in October. Too bad my passport expires on Sept 10 which is a mere 4 days after my departure. That does pose a problem as that is likely to keep me from boarding the plane or possibly getting to London and not being allowed through customs.
I spent a lovely part of the weekend trying to get an appointment at the Chicago Passport Agency and was able to secure one for the 20th. Of course I'm supposed to do a presentation at a conference in Appleton at almost the same time. The next available appointment in Chicago isn't until the 27th. Doing my renewal at the passport agency I have heard is a nightmare of long waits and having an appointment doesn't really mean anything besides that they will let you in the building but doesn't actually mean that you won't be waiting for hours. I could pay a passport expediter like Passport Express and they would handle everything for me.
Decisions, decisions. At least if I go to Chicago I don't have to send off my passport and hope for the best and in a worse case scenario I could try to use it. I also could have dinner at the Chicago Diner if I go to Chicago. However, an expeditor would mean not having to take a day off from work, begging a co-worker to cover for me at the conference and having to make the very logn drive to Chicago.
I need to decide by tonight because if I'm going with an expeditor I need to start the process right now.
Oh yeah, and I did ride my bike this weekend. I did some lovely intervals on Saturday (love how the Powertap makes you work harder!) and a moderately easy ride on Sunday. I started running again on Friday . . . ouch! Besides worrying about my passport I have a ton of things to do for cyclocross events before I leave on vacation . . . reserve park, get a USA cycling permit, get a flyer done, send out some sponsor letters, etc., etc. I can't wait to be on vacation!!

I'm sorry!!! I had some passport woes before our trip, too, so I understand the panic. Good luck with whichever option you pick!
use the expeditor! it is worth it, with everything else you have going on. my mom has used them, and I did once as well.
