This week's news
You read it here first . . . .
1. We won't be having a cyclocross race in a City of Madison park this year. I'll take the blame on this one. I just didn't feel that I was organized enough to make the presentation this month to the Park's Board and doing it in September would be too late. I also wasn't feeling confident about the $1000 deposit we'd have to put down in case of any damage. We would need to come up with sponsorship to cover that and we don't have it. That means that you'll be racing at Cam-Rock and Badger Prairie again this year. However, given that the County Park is considering allowing us to build a cx specific track at Badger Prairie I feel good about racing there again this year. However, we are not abandoning the idea of doing a cx event in Madison we're just shelving it for now.
2. A committee is forming to put together a proposal to build a bicycle park in Madison. Last night myself and representatives from CVC, Homegrown Cycling, the Brazen Dropouts, the Chainsmokers, and We Are All Mechanics met with the city's bike/ped coordinator to discuss Madison's Platinum Bike Committee's draft plan. Lots of great discussion ensued related both to recreational riding and getting more people riding bikes for all reasons. One thing that came out of it was a discussion of what it would take to get a bike park and I'm putting together a committee to put together a proposal. The bike park could include items such as a closed crit course, velodrome, bmx park, cx course, mtn bike trails, youth programming and more. I'm excited about making this happen and feel this would be a better use of my time than most other things I've been doing. If we don't make this happen now then we should stop talking about it!
3. Cyclocross Clinic! I'm excited about it. Sign up for it if you haven't and don't procrastinate. It makes my life easier and less stessful if you register now. If you know anyone thinking of getting into cross then sent them to madcross.org for the info.
4. Big names are coming to town to race the Levis-Trow 100 this weekend. Yes, the rumors are true that none other than Idaho's Big Shot Law Professor is going to come school the locals. It'd be fun to go but I've got way too much happening to go away for the weekend. Good luck to Jerry and all the Chainsmokers at the race. Those trails are absolutely fabulous and it should be some fun racing action.
5. I'm going to Wales in two weeks and luckily I got an email back from the British Embassy yesterday telling me it would be fine that my passport expires in Oct. I knew that in some instances your passport needed to be valid for at least 3 months or 6 months to gain entrance to some countries. But with the huge backlog in processing I didn't want to renew mine back when I decided to take this trip as based on other's experiences I likely would have been busy calling around trying to get mine right now. Anyway, I hope the person at customs feels the same way as the Embassy.
Okay, enough news for one day.
