Where do the weekends go???
Time seems to fly by. The weekend starts and then it's over and it doesn't seem like much time has gone by.
First my landscaping update . . . . I know most of you probably prefer to read about biking but too bad. I'm obsessed with my landscaping project. I told myself last winter that I was going to do more than just ride my bike and organize bike related stuff. My first undertaking has been landscaping. Anyway on Friday Dave and I cut down the last shrubs in the front of our house. Of course we still have to remove the root system which is the worst part of the job but I feel much happier with them gone. Of course, our front yard looks very funny as now there is just dirt patches and scraggly grass. I think that I want to do a mosaic on the cement foundation on our front porch. I read up on how to do it and I feel there is a 50/50 chance that I would not regret starting such a project.
Saturday was taken up mostly with mountain biking at the Southern Kettles. I didn't have a lot of enthusiasm for the day's training plan but luckily Dave did. Ben had me doing two 10-minute intervals every hour over the course of three hours. Dave actually referred to Ben's training as "brilliant". I didn't have quite that level of excitement for it but I was willing to concede that it was probably a good idea.
I think I lacked the proper amount of enthusiasm because I've been spending all summer riding my mountain bike only on days when my training plan calls for easy rides. I've started to associate mountain biking with purely casual and fun riding and not hammering. I realized that I had gotten a little too comfortable riding my mountain bike slowly. I refuse to concede that the plan was "brilliant" but it was annoyingly smart. And I would like to say for the record that Dave usually complains about Ben's training plans when he goes and does them with me. Of course he has to go and change his tune when I'm not motivated.
Saturday night was dedicated to watching the Tour stage . . . and waiting so long to eat that I demanded that Dave get take out from Vientienne Inn as I was too hungry to eat anything else.
Sunday we hit Glenn's ride in Pardeeville. I rarely drive to ride my road bike but the roads in that area were great. Little to no traffic and great rolling hills through Amish country. What's not to like? Glenn had great ride sheets and had reserved a park shelter for post-ride barbecuing. My ride was supposed to be an easy one so when the group started to pick up the pace a bit on the hills Dave and I cut off for a slightly modified ride. Having a PowerTap keeps you from lying to yourself and now I know when I'm doing intervals if I'm not going hard and I know when I'm riding easy if I'm riding too hard.
Sunday night was more tour watching and attempting to get some stuff done. I didn't get nearly enough done so tonight I will be taking care of some small but important details like the laundry.
The big think I have to get done before 24-9 is go to the dentist on Friday. I think a piece of one of my teeth is cracking off and so I can't chew on one side as it is quite painful. All I can say is beware of small town dentists! Every tooth I had filled as a child has given me problems as an adult. Yet I haven't had any problems with any of my other teeth. Luckily I had very few filling as a kid but this is the 2nd problem with this tooth which is already mostly gone. And yes, I had a small town dentist fix the 1st problem and when my current dentist saw my dental work he was shocked as apparently people with my quality of dental work are usually much older. I guess small town dentists don't keep up-to-date on the latest and greatest techniques. Plus, I had that one fairly senile dentist who had to have the instructions read to him as he did my root canal but that's a long sad story for another day.
