Good news all around!
First good news of my morning was settling on a date for the annual Mad Cross clinic. Ben is able to come back to Madison for an August 19 clinic. Now all I have to do is reserve the park space, get a permit, line up sponsors, update the registration information and website and publicize the event. I think just over 5 weeks will be enough time but put that on your schedule now!
Second good news of my morning is that I am getting the jerseys reprinted. They say it should take about 2 weeks so maybe by 24-9 if things go well. I'm glad to be done dealing with that and have it resolved so that we have the right color jerseys.
Funny story from last night's ride - I had two intervals to do. I'm doing my first interval and I can't seem to put out enough watts to even get out of my recovery zone. I'm working hard and am at the very top of my mid zone for heart rate but yet my watts are crazy low. At this point I'm thinking that there is absolutely no hope that my racing will improve and maybe I should just face the facts. Finally finish the interval and I'm just riding along and I'm futzing around with the PowerTap computer and the next thing you know I look down and I'm putting out more watts just riding along recovering than I was during the interval. The 2nd interval everything is normal and I'm putting out the number of watts I would expect for the effort. What I've taken from this experience is that I need to read the booklet that tells you how to operate the computer a little closer. I did skim it before I went out but I have no idea what setting I was in during my first interval. I guess it kept me riding hard though! It was quite funny in retrospect.
And I'd just like to say that I'm loving this 70 degree weather. So very nice! Too bad we're headed for upper 80s again. No racing for me this weekend . . . . with high temps and very little singletrack I will be skipping the Reforestation Camp WORS race. Although I realize that no one actually expected me to be there but I think a few Mad FORCs will be in attendance (in borrowed but lavender jerseys!) including Deb, Michele, Carol and Amelia and maybe some others such as Kathy and Berlie.

You need to zero out the PowerTap when the temperatures get weird (crazy high or crazy low), and for the first season or two of ownership. By the third season the strain gauges settle down, but you still need to do it when the temps fluctuate.
It's easy -- instructions are in the manual.
