Testing
So a while back Yuriy Gusev (local ski guru . . . I mean coach) offered to do a VO2 test for me for free. It's unclear why he offered to test me for free (maybe he thinks I'm the next Beckie Scott . . . hahahahaha) but he made the offer so I went over this afternoon to be tested.
Anyway, I was running late so he didn't have time to go through everything with me so I said I'd stop in at Ski School tomorrow to go through the findings. However, he did say one thing . . . "that's very interesting" he said to start. That always makes a girl feel good. Then he says that it appears that I would do well until events got over an hour long. NO DOUBT! I guess that in my explanation of cyclocross to him over the years I never really emphasized that these are not endurance events. He's used to doing testing on nordic skiers and even triathletes so I'm sure my testing was not what he normally sees. Dave gets tested as part of his participation in ski school and he did his VO2 test (running not biking though) and apparently Yuriy was impressed with his results . . . not a surprise to me as he has what it takes to be quite good. Don't worry 40+ers though as he claims he isn't going to race cross as much this year so he can do a better job preparing for the Birkie. I always am impressed that he does so well at cross when he spends all week going to ski school and doing ski workouts.
Anyway, speaking of the Birkie . . . . I'm going to have a rough transition from cx into December gearing up for a ski marathon at the end of February. I'm going to need to transform myself into an endurance athlete. I plan to make that magical transformation on December 31 right as the clock strikes midnight! Presto chango . . . join me in Minocqua if you want to see that happen live.
If you live in Madison and you're interested in VO2 testing, lactate testing, metabolic training, ski training or ski lessons give Yuriy a call. He's a cool guy and if you get tested with him you can see his Powertap wheel that he has on his ceiling that he has been trying to use with his power poles to test poling power for skiers. He's always trying to do things better and try new things which is pretty awesome. I'm definintely hiring him for some ski lessons this winter as I'm going to need to refine my form if I'm going to survive 51k of really hilly skiing.

Let me know how that works out! I'll be sticking with 'cross...
Renee, are you a cottage of wattage (at least for 45 minutes)?
'Cottage of wattage'?!? I love it!
I think I'm more like a run down shack of wattage but that doesn't have quite the same ring to it! Maybe a fixer up cottage . . .
I'm a lean-to of wattage.
I propose the team name: "The Shanty Town of Wattage"
