And even more skiing . . . .
Okay, so I'm guessing that you're sensing a trend here with the blog. It's transformed from MadCross to MadSki really although you shouldn't worry as I'm sure that I can find a zillion ways to still fit in talk of cross.
So I had a few holiday hours that I needed to use or lose and not many days left in which I can use them so I took some time off this afternoon and headed back out to Odana to continue working on my skiing. I actually lasted for a whole hour today and I think there was some minor improvement. I'm sure the improvement was imperceptible to most but I could tell that I didn't suck as much as on Saturday. If you were out there and saw me then you probably find it hard to imagine I was worse on Saturday but I was. Scary, huh??
Today I tried to focus on making use of leg strength to get good forward momentum and to use my ab muscles not my arm muscles. Well, that's what I tried to do but mostly I just focus on not falling down or planting my poles between my skis and almost falling down. Hard to believe that only 2 years ago I skied the Kortie and the Great Bear Chase.
Anyway, I can now ski for 1 hour and I only need to be able to ski for 4 hours to do the 24 Hour race so maybe there is hope. Oh wait, 1 hour and 4 hours are very different. It's not like I have to do 4 hours of straight skiing though. I'll get breaks so that will help. I must remember to stretch and ice after each time I ski though or I my knee might rebel. My knee isn't really loving skiing yet but I'm sure it will eventually.
I've got 2.5 weeks to get ready for the 24 Hours of Telemark which is a little frightening but 10.5 weeks until the Kortie which should be okay.
