Sisterhood of the Skis
So my 24 Hour of Telemark team had a planning meeting last night and we took care of the important detail - team name. We are going with Sisterhood of the Skis. Yes, a blatant rip off of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants but a chick flick name is appropriate for ski chicks.
I have to say that the thing that really makes me laugh about the whole ski race is that our team of 6 women is going to be better sponsored for this one race than I was for the whole cross season. Not that I didn't have good sponsorship from Alan but it can't compare with my ski race team. Horny Toad is paying our team entry fee which is substantial for a 24 Hour race, Mountain Hardwear is giving us awesome vests to wear which will be embroidered with our team name if they have enough time and there may be long underwear, socks and more coming on board to ensure our "success". It makes me laugh that someone who skis like I do (very badly) could be so well sponsored. My friend Pam rocks when it comes to organizing our team. I think I need her to be my team manager for cross!
Last night I went running for the first time since all my failed attempts at the start of cross season. It went pretty well actually although I only ran for maybe 25 minutes but it didn't seem to bother my knee too much. I guess all those little short runs in cyclocross helped get my knee used to the feel of running. With the weather forcast calling for temps to rise about freezing I need to be prepared to do some running if the ski trails close.
I had my last coaching chat for quite a while with Ben Turner from Cycle-Smart and he said there was no reason for me to ride the trainer for the next couple of months. I could just get all my aerobic work from skiing and my biking could be limited to commuting and warming up before strength workouts. Ben thought it would be good to go back to some of the strength building stuff I did during Physical Therapy so that my knee gets even stronger. When the weather gets nicer and my ski season is over then I'll get back to the bike. This morning I told Dave that it was only 9 months until cross season started . . . that was pretty funny. I believe he told me I was obsessive-compulsive . . . is that a bad thing?
Now if I could just kick my illness which seems a little worse again today. Dave thinks I should see a doctor next week if I'm not better. What are they going to do . . . tell me to rest? With only two weeks until the 24 Hour race that is just not practical. I've got a Madnorski ski lesson on Christmas Eve morning at Elver . . . now that is really what the doctor ordered :-)
