Skiing at Blackhawk

With warmer temps on the way I decided to not take a night off from skiing last night as you never know when the snow will melt. Dave was headed out to Blackhawk for Ski School so I decided I would ski at Blackhawk as well.

What a difference soft snow makes in my skiing. I actually felt like there was some hope that I would remember how to ski. Soft snow really makes it easier to ski with bad technique. I think that must be how I survived the races I did two years ago . . . I must have skipped any with cold, hard snow.

I stuck to the upper trails at Blackhawk which on my bike seem fairly flat. I really noticed the ups and downs on my skis though. The trail there has this one really tight corner after a downhill that required all the snowplowing finesse I could do on my skis. If that corner had been icy I would surely have died. Anyway, it was fun skiing the loop and getting to watch all the ski schoolers doing their classic intervals. Those guys can really fly.

The side benefit of skiing at Blackhawk last night was that Yuriy gave me a free tip . . . he told me that I planted my ski poles like I was a rower and that I needed to keep them in front of my shoulders. Easier said than done though as when I tried that I was in complete fear that I would plant my poles between my skis. Practice, practice, practice!!! I'm hoping to find a time that I can take a lesson with Yuriy to supplement the free Madnorski lesson I'm taking tomorrow morning at Elver. Two weeks until 24T!!!!

Oh yeah, and I still have a hacking cough. The janitor at work told me that if I stopped biking to work in "this weather" I could get rid of it. One of my co-workers suggested I drink alcohol to get rid of the cough. . . I like that idea much better.
